Casualty & Product Liability Litigation

Booth, Mitchel & Strange LLP has been engaged in the casualty defense practice for over 30 years. The firm has been significantly involved in a wide range of cases arising under virtually every form of liability coverage, including claims under general liability, motor vehicle, and homeowner's policies. Over the years the firm has also represented a number of large self-insured entities. Our experience in the field has ranged from straightforward automobile and premises liability cases to extremely complex mass tort claims, including refinery explosions, high-rise fires, chemical and asbestos exposure and other forms of major litigation involving serious injury and complex liability issues.

The firm has found that success in this practice derives from providing high quality legal representation guided by adherence to our clients' litigation standards with constant attention to the need to control litigation costs. Our approach includes early evaluation, a detailed litigation plan, and prompt settlement efforts where appropriate.

Booth, Mitchel & Strange LLP's involvement in the area of products liability law predates the introduction of strict liability in California, and has been an area of special interest to the firm throughout its history. Since those early days, the firm has successfully represented numerous manufacturers and distributors of a diverse range of products, including motor vehicles, chemicals, power tools, recreational equipment, alarm systems, automatic door systems, food and home products, and a host of other consumer, commercial and industrial products.

We have found that a successful defense in these cases involves the development of a close relationship with the client in order to obtain an early, comprehensive understanding of the technical issues involved in each case, early and careful selection of experts, and aggressive use of pretrial procedures to limit or avoid jury exposure. While the current state of the law in the area creates significant challenges, we have a history of substantial success in this field.
